Book Description:
Cowritten by USA Today best-selling author Tara Sivec and award-winning narrator Andi Arndt, a hysterically funny, heartfelt romance about starting over and taking chances.
Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and thatās how my podcast, Heidiās Discount Erotica, was born.
Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life reading erotic novels to the listening world. And with each episode, I find myself embracing my new alter ego more and more. Now Iām starting to feel more comfortable in my own skin and do things I never would have dreamed of - like kissing my neighbor.
Look out, Waconia, because Heidiās on the loose! Sheās in your ears, in your hearts, and down your pants...wait, that didnāt sound as good as it did in my head. Well, you get the picture, donātcha know!
Review:
* Disclaimer: I start all my reviews with this disclaimer. I might not have liked a book but that doesn't mean you won't. We all read books differently based on personal opinions, personal preferences, personal life experiences, etc. Same goes for me loving a book, you might not feel the same way and that's completely OK! The beauty of reading is that no book will be read the same way. Hell, sometimes even reading a book a second time will make it hit completely differently or make me question why I liked it in the first place. All this to say, I hope that reading my reviews can help you learn more about the book and why I felt the way I did, and then help you decide based on your personal preferences if the book would be a good fit for you or not.
I really enjoyed this one! I'm not usually a contemporary romance person, I usually need some magic in my books, but I decided to give this one a go an I am SO happy I did!
I listened to this one on Audiobook and I think that was a contributing factor to my enjoyment of this book. To be honest I am not sure I would have like it as much in book format. Yes, it is the same words, but there is a lot of long paragraphs of speech inside the book. I feel like those might have become a bit redundant and frustrating if I was reading it instead of listening to it. However, in the Audiobook they 100% added to the charm. I loved how the voice of Heidi was done!
Another thing which made this 5 stars was how fun it was, it was exactly what I was looking for when I decided to pick it up. It's rare that books make me laugh out loud and this one did, multiple times! I was driving in the car and grinning ear from ear. When I was having a bad day this book managed to somehow lift my spirits.
Onto the story itself, I loved the concept and thought it was done very well! I could see some of myself in Heidi and I think many other people might too. Many mothers I think will also be able to relate to Heidi's mother as well.
As for the romance it was so sweet!! The MC and love interest matched really well. I also loved the side characters, and would definitely read a book about Jamieson and Aubrey and how they met.
The book also has a great sex positive message, how sex is not wrong or bad. I know many people grow up like Heidi did and never really learn to explore that side of themselves. This book did a great job at demonstrating that concept and normalizing sexual pleasure and trying new things. I also love how the authors explored growing up, trying new things and staying true to yourself.
I've already recommended this to my mom and she is liking it so far! If you are in the mood for a great contemporary romance which isn't too heavy or dark than this is a great pick! Until next time,
