Book Description:
CURSES. FORCED SERVITUDE. REBELLION.
Draekon conquered the human continent more than one thousand years ago. The powerful creatures are superior to their human subjects in every way, and they don't attempt to hide it. Lissa Allaway is a healer in Caldiri, the poorest region in the continent. When she is recruited to the capital to serve the dominant beings, she is forced to reconsider what she thinks she knows about the beasts. Are they truly the monsters from Lissa's childhood stories? Or was she misled about the draekon? Lissa is determined to get answers. But with the threat of a rebellion hanging overhead, she must tread carefully or risk incurring the wrath of the handsome, but deadly, prince.
Review:
Hmm, where to start? I enjoyed this book. I actually read the second one right after hence why the reviews of book one and two will go live at the same time.
The main issue I had with this book was it's pace. I understand why it was paced as it was but sometimes I found it dragging a couple times. The premises was interesting! Definitely the type of book I like. I liked how there was some things hinted which I am sure will be explored in the next book.
There was definitely good use of suspense and a good use of leaving unanswered questions to make you want to keep reading.
Characters were all distinct and solid. I could clearly picture them and their personalities.
Overall it wasn't a new favorite but I did enjoy it and it kept me reading.
I have some theories for the next book, some I am sure will happen as it is blatantly obvious to me with the "hints" given. Others are things which I really hope happen but we shall see, the author did a good job of putting some things in there to keep me off the trail of certain plot elements. I could be right about them in the end or I could be wrong.
